Are either of you guys familiar with Ted Turnaus ‘Imagination’ material? I have found it so helpful on this matter and I am also totally on board. I’d add ‘filmmaking, illustration and animation’ to the list tho.

Thanks Jason - no, I haven’t come across this material, but I’ll remedy that asap. Looking forward to digging into this. Good point re filmmaking etc. I’ll see if I can make an edit to include these too.

Many thanks for this Andrew. I hope to devote more time to my creative writing starting in the new year. This piece has given me much food for thought, and not a little inspiration. I'm conscious that in the past I've steered away from being 'too edgy' out of fear of offending or of shocking. The key question is how to do it from a Christian perspective and motivation as opposed to being gratuitous.

Thanks Carol, I'm really looking forward to following how things develop with your creative work in 2025. I definitely think that the area of motive that you have identified is key. I think of some of the narrative descriptions of the Old Testament in terms of the very difficult content they embody and at times the lack of narrative judgement they give on what is taking place (Judges would be a prime example of this for me). The wider covenantal framework lends liberty for these texts to be edgy and at times unsettling, and I think that's a great basis for Christian writing that enters the 'danger zone'.

Will you be publicly sharing your progress on your creative projects through the incoming year? I'd love to follow how this all develops.
